Our Mission/History
The Law and Policy Group, Inc. is a think tank for the community to open a dialogue about social justice and racial equity in the United States. We provide a platform for discussion, centerpieces that open minds, and transformative conversations that change hearts. The Law and Policy Group, Inc. was formed in 2001 by a group of concerned citizens who wanted to affect substantial change in the areas of social justice and racial equity. We conduct outreach, publish the biennial Report on the Status of Black Women and Girl and the U.S Constitution: An African-American Context via the Law and Policy Group Press, and produces plays, films, documentary, and other media.

At The Law and Policy Group, Inc. we believe that gaining knowledge empowers each of us to better care for ourselves and for others.

A letter was written to Executive Director-Counsel Gloria J. Browne-Marshall by a young member of her audience. She had spoken to his class about the need to care for one another, even strangers. This letter exemplifies our mission as an organization.

Dear Ms. Browne-Marshall:

I liked when you said you had to go to the hospital and you saw a little boy in the corner with a broken nose. You went to the doctor in front and said, "This boy needs help." Then the doctor asked "Do you know this boy?" You said, "He is my brother." When I grow up I want to be a lawyer too so that I can change things and stand up for more people.
